about

Mark Fox's debut album on Cherry Sound Records. Following a journey of over 30 years in the making, Mark Fox has returned to the music world in full-force. Following a 15+ year hiatus, and a deep early upbringing in the music world, under legends Archie Shepp, Yusef Lateef, Marion Brown, Steve McCraven, Warren Smith, George Clinton and hosts of others, Mark Fox is now following his calling and heart as a musician, composer and bandleader.

"Three Octaves Above the Sun" represents the completion of this long hiatus and debut of a long and fertile music career, signified by the powerful sound, transcendental and universal nature of the music of Mark Fox. Supported by some of the best musicians in the business, this album brings the listener on a journey of the heart, mind and soul, and spans the traditional post-bop, progressive jazz to West African influenced jazz worlds.

Track Name: Coltrane Recollections
Far before then, presently more urgent than now
And more permanently than always
With more anticipation than next
I recall you …calling.

Dark and moist inside that horn
Like the earth that sprung us forth
Calling ever calling out of knowing so much more then can ever be said

Distant scales pentatonic rising out of the earthly atmosphere
Creating a bridge to a plane without time or boundary
Inspiring, urging calling us to be more
Third-eye vision translation to sound
Calling…listening…calling
I recall you calling me
Track Name: White Dog
Pain is just the station
That also fills the engine
You’ve got to learn my friend
You’ve got to learn to say goodbye

Sticky situation
No time for confrontation
Letting go letting go is easy when you’re knowing
Letting go is easy when you’re… going toward the light

White Dog is calling you to recognize
(your sister…your brother from another mother)

You know those who are your kind
You can see itin their eyes
When all you seem to do
Is to criticize… criticize
Only the strong survive
Only the strong stay alive in your mind..

Self sufficient…inwardly omniscient
That’s the name
Self sufficient…inwardly omniscient
It’s no game

Remembering… the Sacred Trust…Sacred memory
Light, truth, Loyalty, Order, Desire, Impulse, Justice
